When I last posted in the blog, i was frantically trying to secure summer work placement to complete second year. I had went down to London to interview with a designer (who shall remain anonymous) and was granted a placement with them. However something about the whole thing didn't feel right to me, they failed to tell me I had the job and only did so when I contacted them to find out whether or not I had been successful. Whilst I was waiting for a response, which didn't come quickly, I received an email from Selfridges, my preferred placement company, to ask if I was able to do a phone interview for a visual projects internship. That's when things started to move really quickly! I phone interviewed with Selfridges on the Monday, was told they didn't want me to come all the way to London for a proper interview so could I Skype interview with them, I Skype interviewed with them on the Wednesday and finally received a phone call from them on the Thursday to tell me I was successful and would be starting on Monday. I had never been so excited! On the Thursday night I left my job at Mandors, on Friday I packed all my stuff and moved to London on the Saturday. It was mental, but oh so worth it. I'm also really fortunate that my uncle lives in London so didn't really need to worry about accommodation for the 3 months I will be here.
It's safe to say since then, I haven't really stopped! Which is my reasoning for lack of posts.
I don't have an Internet connection at my uncles so I'm having weekly Starbucks sessions to keep up with the world. This is the first time I've had to sit down and write a post of some description. So far it's all good, I've been here 2 weeks and I've been loving every minute of it! My job is awesome, everyone is lovely(despite being warned that Londoners aren't the friendliest of folk, total myth as far as I'm concerned at the mo) and I'm planning on using my free time to get the most out of spending the summer in this amazing city!
Since I was here for jubilee weekend, I wanted to do something touristy so went to the river paegent and managed to get on a bridge(right beside the BBC) and saw the queen! I've managed to sew one garment so far (my sewing machine was an essential item that moved with me!) and today went to Graduate Fashion Week as I had a day off after working all weekend.
I wanted to share with you just a few photos of bits and pieces I've seen and done so far.
I'm super excited to see what the summer is going to bring down here and all the adventures and experiences I'm going to have. I'm also looking forward to doing some serious fabric shopping and well just shopping in general really! Ha but there are some interesting exhibitions on over the summer and I'm making a list of all those I want to go to. Expect some posts on those.
