Selfish Sewing Week 2014

I am totally late with this post.  If I had got my brain in to gear I could have had this up earlier in the week, but I only got my dress finished last night.  So although SSW technically finished the other day, I hope Rachael doesn't mind that I'm two days late!

So here is my contribution to SSW, the Ballet Dress by Dixie DIY.   I remember seeing this dress a while ago and dismissing it because it didn't quite fit with my measurements, but given the chance to make it as a part of this it just felt right.  So I stash-busted for it, knowing I had about 2 metres of this flocked, spot, scuba jersey lurking at the back of my fabric pile.

And let me tell you, this project was a dream to make.  Apart from taping the pattern together, it took about 1.5hours to make up. I added about two inches to both the front and back to make it a better fit to my measurements, I tapered out from the neck to the waist to do this on the bodice.  The fit turned out pretty perfect.  I'll be honest, I really didn't have high hopes for this dress but having worn it all day, I've been pleasantly surprised!

Not only was this the perfect pattern for selfish sewing week, it also fits perfectly in Indie Pattern Month.  I've always been a big advocate of Indie patterns and this month's celebration of them is long overdue!  I hope you all endeavour to make at least one indie pattern this month, I'm sure I'll be making many more! :)
